LEDs for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat

This was a project that I sort of fell into. In summer 2018 my girlfriend (at the time) Emily Nixon was the stage manager for the Rexburg Community Theater's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat. Because I would drive her there and back I found myself often sitting in the auditorium doing homework. And because the Wi-Fi was slow to non-existent I often ended up helping with the lighting and the set.
The lighting director Nate Dursteler and I became friends and because of my technical background he asked me to help with the LEDs for all of the set pieces.

It took quite a while, and the adhesive on the back of the strips didn't like to stay on the paint so I had to hot glue most of the strips on. Many of the Connectors kept failing as we tested all the lights, so to be safe I ended up soldering all the strips. They have 4 wires each so it was a LOT of stripping and soldering!

So I dragged an extension cord with a hot glue gun and a soldering iron all over the stage switching between them as needed and connecting all the wires back to the control boxes. Did I forget to mention I didn't have wire strippers? I ended up stripping all the wires with flush cutters, so that was fun!

The pharaoh's head was the Most labor intensive part because of all the short strips. Several hours and many many times up and down the ladder and it was finished!
Nate did his magic and programmed all the lights to change with the cues.
Having been to a majority of the rehearsals I know that everyone worked very hard on this show. I think that Nate's vision and hard work took this show to the next level and I am happy that I got to be a part of it.
A few weeks after this show I got to work with Nate again on another light and water show which you can read about in my other post Here.
Here is the result!
